Exodus remains unseen by his guests. Raven is elsewhere. And she has eluded her family. Jessica’s son Lee is warding Kinkaid - his charge to safeguard the woman without her knowledge. Slythe is about, doing what he likes. As for the rest? Her children are scattered about the continent and world, but none of them here.
Aspasia intrudes upon the Invictus in their private room, to relate more information about Winterbourne that has been given to her earlier this night. To greet LaGrande.
And then things start to take on a sameness. There is a little measure of time left before the clan gathers at midnight and the Amazon is restless. It has been some time since she last saw Raven. So she starts to wander about, intent on finding him.
This purpose is put aside when the scent of fresh blood, the smell of fear, wafts through the air like an exquisite perfume. It comes from an isolated corner of the ballroom, where a cluster of Sanctified, lead by Aiden Callaghan are bent over a body splayed on a table.
Aspasia tilts her head back, just a measure and inhales deeply. Something in her stomach tightens with the smell. She’s not hungry, but she could dine. And the beast in her body purrs with approval. She doesn’t even question why or by what right the bleed him out here in this place of predators.
Instead, the Amazon crosses over to the table, others making way for her to lean over near the man’s head, taking in the full display while Aiden is speaking.
Her left hand quite naturally starts to caress the man’s hair, marveling at the texture and feel, even as the scent of blood continues to intoxicate.
“Why?” She looks across the table at Callaghan’s offspring, “What caused this.”
“He’s an agent of the brood. Sent here as part of a strike force.”
“Interesting and futile.”
“Yes. Particularly considering his target.”
“Who?”
“Dominion.”
Aspasia glances down at the moaning man, “Indeed.” She bends down, so that her cheek brushes along his hair, and her lips are close to his ear. “What do you want with her?”
His eyes roll up, for a moment glancing away from the focus of his fear, the grim Sanctifed, to look at Aspasia. She revels in the fear that seems to color his face. “Target. We’re supposed to grab and snatch.”
Aspasia frowns. “I don’t like that.”
The Brood targeting one of Exodus brood? Maybe the others. Easy way to demoralize the gathering, if they get even one.
*Like Raven?*
For a moment, fear runs along her spine, and Aspasia considers running off to find him, see with her own eyes that he is unharmed and then she dismisses the irrational reaction. Of all those gathered in Tulsa, Raven is one of the most capable and able. He will be fine. It is the lesser known members of his line who will be at risk if this is the intent.
The smell of blood distracts her again, as Aiden demands of the victim that he answer the other questions put to him. She wants so badly to taste of it. But caution rules over impulse. Who knows if he’s been altered, magiced, drugged. Her hunger can wait to be sated later in the evening.
Still Dominion was the target. Best to check on Exodus’ eldest daughter and make sure that enough of those interested in her safety are made aware of the potential threat.
So, reluctantly, Aspasia watches as Aiden and his associates withdraw from the public area, with the man in their possession. She expects that is the one and only time she will meet him.
So, now to find Dominion. Easiest to go where she knows the woman will appear, the place designated for the blood. There, in the safety of a large number of Gangrel, not even the most dense of the brood would dare perpetrate an attack. There will be time then to analyze, plot and plan.
And, there is the matter that Aspasia and Brooke promised to bring to Exodus and to the clan. She will not neglect her duty or her sworn word.
