Leaving behind the Invictus and the scene of Exodus loss, a smaller number than before of the clan gathered back in the place set aside, to discuss the other matters weighing upon the danse. Aspasia’s thoughts were turned inward until the matter of Dominion’s childe caught the attention of the others.
She had thought Jack was making good progress in his recovery from being feral. She’d seen the progression before with other Gangrel. Star who was so far gone that for several decades a chain or the presence of a select few were always required - for the protection of others. Her own grandchile, Sonny, had changed greatly in only the two years that she had been discovered and claimed for the Pantheon.
And much of that is due to the Ventrue, or to Mirandia and Cateyrn.
Of course the Invictus have expectations from those they keep near or in their covenant. But like Hisa, Sonny will become a bodyguard of renown in time.
She remembers Mary’s ranting about Sonny and how she made the clan look weak. If she were here now, the woman would have been required to exert all her self-control not to attack Jack, of that Aspasia was certain.
Or, had been certain until this weekend.
He was standing up right. She had noted and approved. But, it appeared to be less of Jack’s own determination, and due rather to the actions of another kindred. One who saw fit to break his back in order to ‘help’ Dominion’s childe.
The blood of the clan boiled at this. Dominion’s irritation was something that Aspasia could not help but pick up on, and it touched on her maternal instincts. How dare the woman do this thing, by what right.
So the woman is caught out while angry murmurings float in the air, the Amazon contributing her share to the aura of discontent.
It is determined from the woman’s mouth, she did this thing to Jack without skill. Having no knowledge of medicine and what could do more harm than good. The unspoken consensus in the room is that she would suffer exactly the same that was caused to the feral. And they all look to Exodus as Prince to voice this on behalf of the clan.
He walks to the woman, and from a distance away the two, trespasser and Prince, talk.
Then, Exodus turns about, the woman with a face drained of all vestige of color then grabs at him. He appears unsurprised.
Though it is a struggle for her at first, she wraps arms about him, her chest pressing towards Exodus’ back, and there is a bone-shattering crack. As she repeats, using the body of the Unholy’s Angel, the ‘medicine’ she used on Jack.
For a moment, there is the promise of violence in the air, thick like smoke. The woman may not make it even ten paces from the place where she is frozen, not alive at the least.
Exodus speaks, “Let this remind you. What you do to one, you do to all.”
His words have a dampening effect on the room.
This was not what they expected.
And the woman leaves swiftly. No doubt some measure of a survival instinct told her how much danger she was in. That things could spin on the edge of a knife, pointed at her.
And that is when Jack speaks up, “We’re being watched.” And he gestures to a spot past where Dominion and Aspasia are seated.
