Summary: Fai can't tell a lie to save his life.
Fai is lying and he knows it.
He’s lied all his life-his name is a lie, living a lie-and he doesn’t think one more lie will hurt.
So he smiles, the baring of teeth painful on his face, alien because it has no right to be there, not after what he has done. The smile creases up his eyes, so he can’t, no he can’t, see the boy he is going to lie to. He hands him the feather, the words falling from his mouth as glibly and slickly as oil. As putrid too, but the taste of lies is one he has always held on his tongue.
The boy gratefully takes the feather, and lets it sink into the princess’ chest. Fai feels a twinge of regret, but lets it go. Too late to get it back, and maybe, just maybe, this little good deed overrides every sin he has uttered. Impossible, but he hopes.
He knows that the ninja is suspicious; he can see him glaring out of the corner of his eye. His smile stretches wider-his face hurts, but he’ll get used to it-and blurts out the first thing that comes to mind to distract the man.
“Kuro-pon!”
Fai regrets it even as it slips out, but it sticks like glue to the irate man. This nickname is another lie, and he knows that this lie will somehow lead to his downfall.
But he knows he’s already falling, so what harm can a few more lies be? He’s been repeating this all his life.
“Or how about Kuro-tan?”
