musing, thoughts, job search

Firstly.

Had a dream about an airplane that was decorated tacky Egyptian style, except that like most airplanes in my dreams it was transparent on the inside and flew really, really low, so it was more like gliding near the ground. I went to Seattle, which in my dreams is apparently a city of rivers and black marble buildings in the tasteful, stylish, late 20th century early 21st aesthetic way. Lots of curves. Lots of Starbucks. We went to the woods north of there in the plane and found the Seattle Zoo which was apparently full of strange statuary and autumn leaves.

Eventually we came to a desolate north place and I got out of the plane to stand on a high hill with shacks of faded grey wood. The grass was yellow and the sky was broad. I had a glider, on my back, and I spread my wings to jump from tier to tier of the little hill, before a grizzled old man said to me that I should find a high cliff and really try to fly. I was afraid, but he expressed confidence in my skills as a glider, and so I found myself a high cliff and jumped into the blue.

In my head as I flew there was a song, but I cannot remember what it was now. I still recall the feeling of the wind supporting my wings, a firm cushion of air that tugged and pushed and which I struggled to master, not unlike the riding of a great wave. I circled like a hawk above the great yellow plain, and eventually I landed because we still had further north to go. Ever north.

Haven't found any publishing companies in Maryland that I want to apply to. Curious. Will fill out the NPR forms soon. Almost fucked up the Marvel thing because my school wants me to have registered for it as a class by Monday, but I won't know for certain if I'm in or not until December. Good job, McDaniel. You have to have an internship proposal done by late October when spring internships don't tell you jack until December? I understand you need to get your paperwork in but really.

I'm going to look at Virginia, DC, New York and then Austin, Texas soon; any other suggestions? Or, alternately, "Where do you live so I can come visit you / live in your area for four to six months."

On the bright side, Weird Tales still exists and I had no idea. Man, I'm really clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. The problem is that I haven't written any original fiction that I actually like in a while. The last creative thing I thought was good was Judgment of Osiris. Everything that gets done for my Creative Writing class is literary fiction because that's all the professor wants to read.

Grrr. I need inspiration and don't know where to find it.

I had something else to say, but I honestly can't recall what it was. Meh.
