I remember the apollo 11 explosion, I was 4 or 5, and mostly because there was a bad joke at school the next day

I don't remember that one, though I do remember seeing Apollo 13 splash down.

Yep, definitely cool!

LOL I wanted to be an astronaut when I was in first grade (of course, I also wanted to be a ballerina and an archaeologist -- all at the same time). XD

The closest I've ever gotten to the actual space program was seeing the main engines of the space shuttle sitting on a test gantry (at Marshall Spaceflight Center) in the early 80s. They were there for testing before being put on the Shuttle.
