It's basically just verbally (and mentally) and symbolically expressing a set of associations that relates to the god/dess/es and holiday it's relating to. Like, Beltane is typically associated with bonfires, fertility, the maypole, and the passing of the Goddess energies from maiden to mother. It depends on which tradition you are looking at, and who you are talking to as well. But neo paganism is like that, you never really know exactly which correspondances the ancient practictioners used, so lots of people just plain make them up. And when it comes down to it, all the correspondances are very much individual choice, so you use what feel like it fits for you and the occasion

You can do something secretly for yourself, ie, last year I picked some dandelions and did my bit internally! Nobody knew any of the wiser and it just looks like you picked some flowers :)
