Ah, what a crazy week. Workshopping Pigments was rather revealing. I know my style isn't always elevated in register, but it seemed easy for people to take that story and then generalize as to my writing style.
I thought I made very specific stylistic choices, which complemented the subject matter and theme of art, sight and vision. The time period really contributed, but I managed to omit the detail that it was in the 18th century for the second draft.
How important is style to a reader's response? As it affects whether a person responds to a character or story, then it seems on par with the other narrative elements of character, plot, deigesis, etc.
Part two of the first major project of the semester is turned in at 5 minutes past midnight, when it was due. I had wanted to create an elegant solution for handling the arguments and passing them to the appropriate function (and will likely come up with it, though too late to use it for part 1). I'll be finishing the next part well before its due.
I'm feeling good after catching up on sleep today, plan on doing some exercise once I refresh my setup (Emacs, both computers and set up development environments for both LISP and C/C++). I need to have a 15-25 page draft of my summer research paper done this weekend, so that's where my Saturday will be going. My Friday will likely be spent working on homework for my other classes, much as today was spent reviewing notes and doing readings.
Christine is as wonderful as I could ask, and I'm going to miss seeing her more than once this weekend. We have some plans for latin or swing dancing in the forecast, and a Renaissance trip planned for the following weekend. I'll definitely need to have my summer report done by then.
