Anybody up on American symbology?

So, a lady we know was giving her stuff away and she knew I was interested in picture frames and she saved me a whole load of them. They all came with images already in them but frankly not to my taste. She was fine with us just using the frames. the pictures inside them didn't hold any emotional value. Amidst the frames I received, was a ( Read more... )

Seems to me like a parody of a military banner. Notice the words on the left hand side say "Say can I ask you a question, What the hell are we doing" and it seems like a part of the writing on the right hand says "From the Kiosk of weinerschnitzel" (don't ask me why...)

But the "Lest we forget" is a common saying on military propaganda and was often found as the only wording on war memorials, or used as an epitaph. From Wikipedia:

The Ode of Remembrance is an ode taken from Laurence Binyon's For the Fallen, which was first published in September 1914 to honour the British casualties of the First World War. We are leaning towards stoner fraternity or something. Maybe they are high jumpers which might account for the kangeroo. The maple leaf could mean they are Canadian or it's some herb or other. Maybe it's the Canadian and Australian High Jump Team's Fraternity smoke-house banner for their Washington college? Heh.

Sorry to sound cynical, but check out the writing either side - I can't think of a Jewish sect/Masonic Lodge/military unit with a motto like 'what the hell are we doing bongggg'. I think that's supposed to be a hash leaf in the upper left, though the significance of a kangaroo jumping through a smoke ring eludes me. I think the Latin means 'don't let the bastards grind you down', while the crude Greek lettering suggests frat house. Shame though.

Australian Stoners Fraternity? Yep, I was looking forward to it being a bit more meaningful. It's strange that someone took time to embroider this though. Someone's girlfriend showing loyalty no doubt. >:)
