Fic Master Lists?

Jul 29, 2011 23:49

Since I've been roaming around livejournal sampling the many primeval fics I've noticed that quite a few people have master lists for their fic. I haven't written all that many fics so far but I plan to write much more (JESUS I HAVE PLOT BUNNIES EVERYWHERE AND NO TIME TO WRITE THEM) so I thought it would be a good idea to get myself a master list ( Read more... )

I made my masterlists (because I can't keep to one fandom apparently) just as normal posts in my journal, but behind a cut. then the master list of master lists which sits at the top of my journal, I again did as a normal post, but I changed the date to be about 5 years in the future or something, and clicked the "out of date order" button. This then keeps the post at the top of your journal.

Hope that helps and wasn't just rubbish...

I also link to my masterlists in the links colum on the left ofmy journal.

Oh, and as for the actual masterlist bit, all I have done is divided the post into rough sections (one shots, series fics, porns, drabbles), the put the title of the peice and who is in it and added a link from the title to the fic. It means having a couple of windows open but is quick enough.

As Jooles says, you have to date the masterlist(s) for a future date.

Then when you post a subsequent entry, you have to post is as 'date out of order' by ticking the box, then go back in and edit that out. If you don't, it won;t show on people's flists. It seems a faff at forst, but you'll soon get used to it.

Once you've got the masterlist sticky post up, yes. But then you edit each post afterwards to take that out after you've posted, so it shows up, but you have to 'date out of order to start with, or it won't post. Or at least that's how it works for me.

I'm sure I'll work it out, there maybe more fic for me to upload in the next week so I'll have something to test it with, thanks for giving me the general idea of how to do it.

I just have the master list itself as dated out of order, but my posts seem to show up fine without checking and unchecking the box. I guess you should just try and see.

Thanks for the additional info, now I'm hopefully fully prepared for whatever my journal will throw at me. Cheers.
