Finally got around to playing Clover no Kuni no Alice, and now I'm going to overthink it...

First, yes, I am still doing summaries for the games. I play them way too much not to do something productive. And this makes me a sad, sad person. XDD

Warning: TL;DR rant that nobody cares about.

I've been playing through several routes in Clover no Kuni no Alice and it really surprised me how different the tone was from Joker. Clover is about ( Read more... )

tl;dr, clover no kuni no alice, joker no kuni no alice, rant, heart no kuni no alice

It's true that Clover is the weakest game in the series, but I think some of the ideas that were first portrayed in there were good. To me the doors weren't a bad idea, but they were certainly overused. Maybe if they hadn't been used as much it would have been better. The forest whale scenes were beautiful. I love the BGM for that part. The only thing I didn't like is that I wish Quinrose would have used some sound effects for the whales. In my head I see them sounding kind of like humpback whales underwater. Of course we got some sound effects for them in Joker even though we didn't see them(I was disappointed with that sound effect though). The doors also sounded creepier in Clover than in Joker IMO. But all the Lorina scenes that you have to watch on every route get boring really fast. And yes, WTF is with Dinah?! Do we care ( ... )

There were backgrounds in the game that I found absolutely lovely and very colorful. Whoever Quinrose got to do their BGs did a fine job, especially the one where Alice is in the void filled with all the stairs that looks like some sort of abstract painting. Definitely gave Wonderland the otherworldly vibe it deserved. Unfortunately, the writing focused a lot less on actual issues Alice might have and more on petty, made-up crap (I mean, who cares about Dinah?! WTF Although it was cute when Boris got all jealous and possessive over her relationship with a FEMALE CAT). Also, the fact the game is gimped in the technical department really disappointed me (it's okay with a patch but...not perfect ( ... )

Oh yes, the BGM that plays in the abstract looking part of Clover Tower is another beautiful piece. Personally I think the Clover Tower has some of the best BGM overall. Heart's Castle ranks as my least favorite for BGM. I'm glad that once Joker was made, Quinrose balanced out the story much better. They must have learned from all the screw ups in Clover. But as far as technical problems, I just have to put the disk in to play Clover. As long as I do that, I haven't faced any particular hardships(also installed the patch before I started playing ( ... )

Angst and regret (with a liberal dose of OOC) basically sums up my own thoughts on Clover as well. Quinrose tries, but there was clearly some sort of dissension in the ranks about what Clover should focus on and it really shows in characterization of everyone in the game. Unlike Heart and Joker, Clover doesn't have any 'main' storyline - the only thing holding it together is the meeting and Alice's angst.

Granted the whales and the creepy doors were a nice touch. And I really liked that on Peter's friendship events that he actually got up and stopped her from obsessing over them. (Someone needed to do it. Everyone else seems to sorta ignore that Alice has door issues.) But, beyond that, nothing really was made out of either. The whales especially were sorta just empty plot devices. At least the doors were used as part of Boris' role. Quinrose could have given us more food for thought on both though ( ... )

I'm still sad about the make-out scenes getting flatter. Sometimes they're so flat in the CGs I wonder if they're kissing at all. It's like they're awkwardly pressing their lips together rather than kissing. DX Joker had some of the worst kiss scenes in the game (some of them were fine...but others...) If they ever do a R-18 version of Alice (they won't, but fangirls have asked...) they'd need another artist because I can imagine some weird, weird CGs. The censored kiss scenes in Anni...*is still sad ( ... )

pfft. Was that what the doors was about? XD I honestly just skipped right past that, as soon as the creepy voices started talking and Alice just continued to sit there I was done. I like to believe that most (or at least sane) people would run from creepy doors that tell people to go through them. Also those sequences are too damn long and reoccurring.

I actually skipped Clover to play Joker. I wanted to play the winter events for xmas. I just started playing Clover the other day and I was pretty annoyed that the doors made another appearance just after I got Blood's second event. And that Alice went to go mope in a forest and started listening to the doors again.

From the CGs that I've seen, I think the Clover kissing scenes are superior to the ones from Joker and Anniversary, especially Anniversary! Some of them in Joker look awkward, almost like they're not even kissing. The ones from Clover look way more intense <3 Anniversary was much worse though. The stories seem fun (Nightmare OMG! I WOULD BUY IT JUST FOR HIS ROUTE!)but ( ... )

A Question... cupcake_fanatic September 21 2011, 17:28:24 UTC
This... is probably a really stupid question on my part but so why exactly is Julius not in the Clover game ( ... )

Why QUINROSE did it? No idea. I think it was because Julius wasn't as popular (I KNOW DX) as we thought he was when the game first came out.

Why it was done in the story? Apparently Julius's work is very specific to the Country of Hearts, and the world in-game has moved to the Country of Clover. The Clock Tower does not move, but everything else does. BTW, Julius lives in the Clock Tower, not the Tower with Nightmare. The reason it appears he lives in the Tower with Nightmare is because in Joker Julius's door sort of is a magical portal or something that leads from his Clock Tower in Heart to Nightmare's home in Joker.

Also, there's something about the 12 Roleholders representing hours on the clock or something (and hours in Alice's life), and with the addition of Pierce and Gray they needed to get rid of two. I think they pretty much dropped the idea with Joker, though. Sometimes Quinrose writes itself into corners.

Oh really? Yeah... I have noticed that he wasn't that popular... on youtube or DA you notice that all of the other characters (minus gowland) seem to be more popular than Julius. It is rare when I find a fellow Julius fan.

It's hard to find the Julius cosplayers too. QAQ

Even so, I love him very much. That's quite sad since I thought he was quite the fun character. Maybe it's just me and my fear of blood and violence that's speaking. XD

Though that does make a bit of sense, though now I am imagining that buildings start to float and just relocate th.emselves in a new country. HA HA HA XD Poor Julius all alone, or perhaps that's good for him since he likes being alone. lol

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. The question has been nagging on my mind since... FOREVER. 8D

It's usually Blood or Boris that are more popular. Blood because...who knows? Boris because he's charming to teenage girls and that's who mostly enjoys the fandom.

Julius is fun. Especially when Ace is involved. <3

Buildings floating? Haha, for all we know that's what actually happened. XD Quinrose doesn't explain half of their world even though I find it really interesting.

I haven't personally played the games, but I know the prison Joker end of Joker no Kuni no Alice ends in Lorina dying by be shot by one of the Jokers in Alice's form. Do you know anything about Lorina being in Wonderland?
