Something I have found as I grow older, is a reluctance to do new things or to finish projects that I would like to complete. This stems in part, I think, from a desire for perfection in what I do. From having done very well at past endeavours, I am reluctant to embarass myself with a poor performance in future. Which is a silly attitude to take when I dwell on it, work will keep paying me ragrdless and my friends accept me for who I am.

One of the best pieces of advice I have encountered for motivating myself is: "projects are not finished, they are published." I find its not so much persistance that I need, as focus. One way of achieving focus is deadlines. I have been toying with the idea of writing a comprehensive article on military science texts in the middle ages for about five years now. Next year I am going to comit to a deadline of delivering that article in a presentation in the USA. Once I spend the cash on the aifares I think I will have given muself some good motivation for getting the project done.
