Either that or he auditioned for Vanished. (at the time they had not cast the role of the senator son, I thought)

Surely though, the last thing Randy would want would be to act with Gale again immediately, and fuel more of the hubub around them? Gale had already been cast before Randy's trip.

Unless I'm confuzzled also ... does this mean they're extending an existing production in LA, so if Randy auditioned - he didn't get the part?

An excuse for what? Seeing old QaF mates - like Dan and Ron?

Yes, it's an LA production and it's being extended, so it's probably played a month or so already. That'd put him there about the time it was auditioning. It's a musical, and Scott Schwartz first saw him in Wicked and then cast him in Equus, so I thought maybe...

An excuse for what?

Well, at that stage, possibly an excuse for eating. He hadn't worked in a while. What I'm not sure of is when he found out he had Amadeus - he's unlikely to have wanted to sacrifice that for a West Hollywood musical so if that was organised long ago it could blow my theory out of the water. OTOH, Scott's Berkshire date in August only just got announced now, so with that kind of lead time Randy mightn't have known.

What's this about Scott in the Berkshires? I'm confused.

Interesting idea about Randy. Could be. OTOH, I know he is saying he wants to do theatre, but I'm not convinced he would turn down another TV gig if it were something connected to a "quality" or prestigious show. So maybe he was in town for pilot season, too?

Whatever he went to L.A. for, it seems he didn't get it.

Or maybe . . .
*cough* *cough*
