Another request drabble. This one's for
prpl_pen, who requested a failed attempt at confession of love on Kaorin's part. Enjoy!
But Maybe Not
I can. I can. I’m sure I can.
Her resolve was steel, her determination set.
Today would be the day.
Today Kaorin would tell Sakaki-san how she felt.
Her palms were sweaty and her mouth was dry. Would Sakaki-san care if her hands were clammy? Would Kaorin be able to speak when the time came to say those words? And… and if they were to kiss, would Kaorin’s mouth be so unpleasantly dry that Sakaki-san would reject her on the spot?!
No! No scandalous thoughts about kissing! That won’t ever happen unless I tell her. Unless I say it. And I can. I can!

Kaorin’s heart leapt.
Oh no, I’m so nervous!
“Um… Sakaki-san…”
I… I don’t know if…

Tomo’s face bobbed six inches in front of Kaorin’s, the other girl’s grin stretched impossibly wide. Kaorin could all but feel the color drain from her face.
“H… how… how could I have mistaken you?!”
“It’s because I’m so beautiful, right?” Tomo danced around, obviously accomplished and self-satisfied. “Must be the hair. Long as Rapunzel’s, prettier than Sakaki’s.”
And somewhere behind her tears of disappointment, Kaorin’s eyes flashed.
“No.”
Two seconds found Tomo tackled to the ground.
“How dare you insult Sakaki-san like that!”
So much for another plan of confession.

“Okay class, time to sta-”
Miss Yukari blinked at the two girls wrestling on the floor.
“What’s gotten into them?”
“You should adopt my credo,” Yomi said, looking pointedly at Tomo. “In cases like these, it’s better not to ask questions.”
Miss Yukari nodded.
“Open your books to page four eight-two.”
