My flist is composed mostly of people whom I've met through fandom. Most of you are writers, and although I don't always comment on the things you write, I do read them. I notice styles, details, certain turns of phrase that are uniquely...you. Or at least I think I do ( Read more... )

Sesshomaru’s mother was surprised when, after 400 years without so much as a postcard, her bigheaded son decided to pay her a visit. Like any ungrateful kid who’s flown the nest, naturally he needed something-probably money ( ... )

To the casual observer, there was nothing wrong with Hinamori’s relationship with her captain. They worked well together in a seemingly innocuous mentor and mentee relationship. He indulged her, and she did her best to make his life more comfortable. She was an ideal vice captain for the easy going Aizen-sama ( ... )

We are all wanderers; it's just a matter of time and distance. They say that if you travel long enough and far away, one day you'll meet yourself in wandering along the way. They also say that if you meet Buddha along the road, you'll have to kill him, because that Buddha's nothing but a flim-flam man, a paper crane, a false horizon shimmering silvery blue and green above a summer sidewalk. In other words: he's not the real thing, so he must be destroyed ( ... )

My favorite thing about summer is going to the beach. I don't swim, exactly. I float. There's a kind of game I like to play. I guess you could call it a game. Or maybe a ritual.

The first part, the most important part, is to swim out far enough from shore. Out past the docks and buoys, where there aren't any people to get in my way. Most importantly, far enough from shore that when I lie on my back and start to float, I can't see any trees, only sky.

Then I just float on my back. That's all. No paddling or skimming my feet in the water. I just lie there and look up at the sky and let the little waves nudge me around the lake. I think it's best on days with light, puffy clouds, the ones that change shape while you watch. Just watching the clouds, with no horizon to anchor me to the Earth. I suppose it feels like flying.
