its all the rage

So I've been thinking lately (again) about the how it seems like it is popular in the world today to have a psychological disorder. Why is that? And it seems like its mainly in the United States. Why is the U.S. teeming with kids whining about how they have depression, OCD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADD, ADHD, etc? I heard someone put it ( Read more... )

Keep in mind too that it's not just a self-over-diagnosis problem. The psychologists in the field over diagnose too, especially kids. Which in part in because the perferred treatment these days is medication and drug companies are pushing doctors to prescribe their wares as much as possible. And remember that, even in that context, medication may sometimes be only treating the symptoms as opposed to the problems. Teenagers especcialy exhibit signs of disorders naturally but msot will grow out of them, just a part of the phase of life. But yea, there's something alluring about being able to say 'I have this wrong with me' and if you read about something you will inevitably starting seeing it in yourself, assume you have pretty much everything. Med Student Syndrome. Multi-faceted issue, it is. I can see you're enjoying Q's class.

But being depressed is like, soooooooooo cool and makes me such an interesting person!
