The other day I bought the latest issue of The Believer, a literary magazine published by McSweeney's. what is it with Russian philosophers and wordy, needlessly complex theories? I had to write a paper last semester on Vygotsky (I do not know if you would love or hate his theories on personal development, sprinkled with a hint of communism) and all of his writings were incredibly thick to get through. If I'm interpereting your quote correctly, it is very thought provoking. any reason for the quote (come to a realization after a bad dream) or did you just find it fascinating and decided to post it?

It's from a magazine I picked up the other day, "The Believer". The article is about a notebook Karl Marx gave to his father for his birthday, and it includes (among other things) the first act of a bad play and twenty-four very short chapters of a...novel? The bit I excerpted is from "Chapter 27", where he talks about knees.

I thought it was a very interesting thought, but it was more interesting to me because of how fragmented its context is.
