queersolitude took me to a cheese shop in Silver Lake today. Ooooh, a wonderful cheese shop. Plenty of samples. Nice looking selection laid out in a friendly manner. (What's an unfriendly manner? Hard to say, but the cheese shop at the Farmer's Market is somehow unfriendly. I think a big part in making the cheese presentation friendly is to put the wheels out in front of the glass, so that you can take a look at them without squinting).
Bought three cheeses. A Maytag Blue, because it's a famous American Blue Cheese I've heard off (I'm no expert, yet), some Red Leicester because they had samples out and
queersolitude liked it ("it's like Cheddar"), and a Brie. I just asked, "could you give me a good brie" and the tall and friendly cheesemonger gave me a sample of one and I bought it. Really, really good Brie. Wish I caught it's name, or knew enough to ID it next time...
Also got some Cherry preserves and some olive bread, then a $5 Zinfandel from Trader Joe's. Fanatastic dinner, though the Zinfandel sucked and I poured it down the drain. (Black Mountain Zinfandel, labeled in the Store as being a "Trader Joe's Exclusive").
Yes! I got to blog about cheesemongers and Red Leicester. It's like the Monty Python
Cheese Shop sketch right here on my computer. In case you ever wondered what Red Leicester is (I have) it's a bright orangey-red cheese, consistency similiar to cheddar, taste kind of like cheddar that's sweet and fruity. I'm nowhere the point that I could be naming the kind of fruit it tasted like. I'd start emitting my own cloud of smug.
