I have really been getting into reading books again lately. I love love love to read, but it's one of those stupid things I often forget to do. If you are looking for a bit of fiction with some social omentary, Head Births by Grass is good (also his book My Century), Henry Mulisch The Assault, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie.
For fun fiction, the McGuire books... (Wicked, Son of a witch, Lost, etc. Skip Mirror Mirror unless you like Renaissance history... the name dropping and depictions of true to life people are interesting, but the story itself is lacing.)
That's all I've got for you. I tend to read a lot of fiction novels and short stories with a social commentary and strangeness to them. If you're interested I've got a few books by authors with a hint of weird and a great vocabulary. Actually, Grass falls into that category a bit.
I haven't read memoirs of a Geisha yet... but it is on my list. I was wondering if you might let me borrow it if I said pretty pretty
