Love wasn't an option for Jesse, not until now.
Rachel snores, but only lightly. Jesse finds it endearing. He finds everything about her endearing. The way she looks at him, as if she can't decide whether to walk away or kiss him, or as if he might disappear. The little smirk that comes to her mouth when he's charmed her into doing something she thinks she doesn't want to do.
Jesse likes to run his fingers over Rachel's pale skin, trace the blue lines of her veins, kissing them when he can. The veins in her arms disappear after her elbows. Jesse follows them by imagination; they lead to her tattoo. The red and black ink stands out against Rachel's skin. Jesse becomes mesmerized by it. If he stares at the tattoo long enough, he thinks he can see the heart pulse.
Rachel isn't beautiful, not in the way Tracy and all the other cheerleaders are. She's not Bulldog Properly material. Jesse's glad because none of his friends will try to have sex with her, bringing up the stupid Bulldog code of sharing.
