Not the way to wake up.

So this morning, instead of my alarm waking me up, it was someone knocking at the door. And then, William announced he had been suspended from school and didn't tell me 'he thought the teacher had told me.' I missed her calls yesterday, so I had no clue. its wrong.. but my initial instinct was to say: "Gear him towards Politics."

Seriously though? They suspended him and didnt provide some kind of documentation?? No note? No confirmation to YOU? I mean.. thats a damned irresponsible school.. what if he had just decided to skip out? he could have gone off and done god knows what today and you would have been none-the-wiser! I would contact the school about this extreme breakdown in communications.

As for him personally? Have you had conferences with the teachers about whatever activity he did that has finally caused this? any type of notification/possibility for corrective behavior?

I teach in an OCPS high school, and they leave phone messages if a referral is written. It is noted on the referral form that a message was left. One copy of the form goes to the student, one to the teacher, and one to records. We have 2800 students, and the administrators don't have time to call back everyone who doesn't answer the phone. Having said that, though, an 11-year-old is different. A 16-year-old you can leave on his own, and in general won't be a danger to himself or others.

Also, if it's a Level 4 offense or certain Level 3 offenses (Level 4 being the most serious), suspension is automatic. Obviously I don't know what Kiddo did, but the school might not have had a choice.

I am certainly not excusing the school. I mean, for all I know, William might be totally innocent and it's all a huge mistake. Just letting you know how the [hugely flawed] system works.
