Well are the commissions based off a percentage of your salary/hours worked? Like..when I worked for the shoe store we got a base pay and commission, but only if a percentage of the sales were more than a certain percentage of your salary. The more hours you worked the less commission you got..
Congrats on the job. I'd say, you need to think through what the prices will be like and whether or not the items will actually sell. Do the math, and go with what works best.
You COULD counter offer. Say, "There's lots of valuable things here. I'm not a salesman, so I don't wanna work on percentages, but I'd love to do this, and I'll work hard for you. So how about $8-10 / hour, and I'll do it!
...Of course, at this point, any regular money is probably looking pretty good. The above is what I'd do if I were presented with this.

If there is like the possibility to double the money you will make with the commission, then I'd say take the $5/hr option.
If there is only a little more to be made, it'd play it safe and take the $7-8/hr option.
