I want to buy some shoes to wear with skirts and shorts this summer, with and without tights. I have been haunting thrift stores looking for these types with no luck. Should I buy any of these?

It is depressing to me how little I know about fashion. That being said, I like the firsts and the lasts but I can't imagine the firsts with shorts in my brain. The last ones look sturdy.

The UO ones seem to be what your looking for, design wise, but I would hold out for a thrift store pair that will actually last you (maybe try Tatters? Ebay?).

Boat shoes are weird; but you could probably make 'em work.

Those black Madden's seem too shiney. Both pairs would look better if they actually had laces. HERE is a pair of Madden oxfords with a leather upper and sole. Still made in China though.

The booties seem in a differnt class of shoe; more like ankle boots. They look nice though.

I think Maddens are uncomfortable. I also don't think $80 is expensive for shoes. Having good shoes makes a huge difference, you use your feet every day! Try stuff on until you find something comfortable. I am addicted to dr martens, even though they probably aren't in style.

I like the oxfords, but if you're going to wear them for a few years, why not shell out for a decent pair that will last you? I also find that some more expensive shoes are made of softer leather and don't need as much "breaking in" (which a pair of shoes shouldn't require anyway).

But then again, I have weirdly shaped feet that are hard to fit and my wide, high-arched feet are throbbing in pain at the end of the day in the wrong shoes.

As for the others, you could do boat shoes, but try simpler, classic ones with a white sole. Also, it's hard to make tan work sans socks if you're fair-skinned, I'd do a darker color in the upper for more contrast.

I had a similar pair of flat booties once, the year was 1993 and many people wore them. Goes well with tapered-leg jeans and plain (non-hoodie) sweatshirts from the Gap.
