I don't know how much my national friends have followed this story, but as of July 1st, the Minnesota State Government has shut down. A quick summary: this is because we have a House and Senate controlled by Repubs with a large number of frankly very ignorant and stubborn Tea Party types, and a Democratic Governor. Republicans ran on absolutely ( Read more... )

Yeah, they need to decide that pretty soon too. We'd all be very, very screwed if the federal gov went into shut-down!

That is pretty crazy that the government is shut down ghost_dinosaur July 6 2011, 13:59:12 UTC
Anarchy in the MN.

Being on unemployment was basically one of the best times of my life. I have yet to ever find a job that I prefer to not doing anything.

You and literally every other person in the world I've spoken to. It's nice if it pays enough. For a single guy living alone with no other outstanding debts, it's hell on my taxes.

My hope is that if, eventually, enough people love doing nothing so much they actually do it ghost_dinosaur July 6 2011, 18:16:55 UTC

I'm getting taxes taken out of my UI... is that not an option where you are, or was it not affordable to do that? I get a smallish (compared to other people) tax return anyways... which is good. Why should the gov have an interest-free loan of my money for a year!? Not that I'm doing anything fantastic with it....

You can hang out with Emily and me. She done working at Target and I'm a poor grad student, so we're being ultra thrifty while I'm there. Funemployment, indeed.

Heck yeah. I'd love to so that. When do you get back? I'm dog-sitting for Jamie and Theresa from the 14th-24th this month, so I'll be based out of the Longfellow neck of the woods. Not sure how long the shut-down will last, but here's to hoping that it's for awhile (selfishly)!

I'm planning to get back late on Monday night. Too bad Emily's not living at her dad's place in Longfellow anymore, or it would be super easy to hang out while you're dog-sitting. Instead, we're staying at her sister's in Northeast.

Wow, you're back soon! Monday night I'm up at a cabin, and Tuesday night I have a play to attend for review (with Liz French!). I hope to see you soon after... maybe on Wednesday for Mary's thing? Did she send you an invite to that?
