Basically what I said is all I spend $ on his good food and good drinks, and I love talking about food so much. I have friends who are all, "Ugh, I wish I could just take a pill and get all my nutrition that way!" and I DO NOT understand it. I love food so muuuuuuuch.
In cases where I lose my appetite, like I'm ill or taking some weird medication (some allergy meds do this to me) I eat so shitty, just warm mushy carbs. I think I need to have my full appetite in order to think that healthy food sounds delicious and to have the motivation to cook it or seek it out. I've been getting over a stomach bug this week, and even after the actual illness passed, I've been eating dumb stuff like buttered noodles for my meals because my appetite isn't back and nothing sounds good.
I went to a Cold War themed vodka bar in Vegas at the Mandalay Bay. Kind of thinking, "Nice, a bar dedicted to my least favorite form of imbibement (Not a word, don't care)". To this day I retain I had one of the best cocktails I've ever had there. Certainly the best martini. Not sure of the ingredients, but it was banana stuff. Garnished with a chocolate dipped plantain chip. Cost more than our dinner that night.
Anyway, your post makes me miss living in a city. We have some great little places around here, but nothing like that. Jealous.
Haha we went to a weird Bulgarian Bar in New York that has a Cold War themed downstairs. They have an ice-bar and you can put on various old Soviet military outfits and etc. I think it's only open on the weekends, so we stayed upstairs where the live Gypsy jazz was playing. They also do this thing that I loooove where they make a giant vat boozy punch and ladle it out for $5 a glass. I love the idea of a bar having their special punch, like in ye olde timey days!
One cocktail trend I've noticed beginning here is another vintage thing, making "shrubs" or drinks with a vinegary component. Sounds like kombucha to me! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrub_%28drink%29
