Graded a fistful of annotated bibliographies. They are bloody awful, even after I listed the mistakes they all most likely made on the board, and gave them an opportunity to fix 'em in pen. Many of the problems are not their fault: they have never been expected to be critical and write well. Which is a pity.
Isn't he something? I'm a fan, a bit. In that I think Carver's isolates and unspectaculars and vaguely broken losers are. . . well, us. I think he's important.
The other day, I heard some 19ish people who I sometimes hang out with go into a 'kids today' rant. They were well into it before they realized that I was laughing hysterically. Indignantly, they insisted that THEY were not like these kids! They were talking about OTHER KIDS!
