the thing is that you arn't the one who is making him act the way he is. It's not YOUR fault that he is really sensitive and has to take things out on himself. like you said, why can't he just punch a wall like every other guy? The hole in the wall would still be your fault in his head, but he's the one who hit it with his fist. the same applies to if he does anything to himself. In his mind it's your fault but the reaction is all him. You can't beat yourself up over the way his character reacts.
