A boy asked me recently what to expect as a singer considering Village Harmony. He ended up not being able to sign up for it, but it got me thinking.

(for those of you who don't know, Village Harmony is my summer camp, a three-week hippie-tastic singing extravaganza involving a two-week concert tour)

When you get to Village Harmony, expect: )

awww Becky I like the last one
the only thing that worries me is that it sounds like such a large amount of singing for such long time periods could be unhealthy

I didn't believe that it was possible to sing 6 hours a day or more and not have voice trouble, but I know lots of Village Harmony kids and none have talked about losing or damaging their voices or having any lasting trouble with it (and some have gone on to professional opera careers and the like). Part of the help is that especially in the Eastern European music nothing is going to be very high in your range, part of it is drinking lots of tea...somehow it all works out. But if warming up helps you, you need to be prepared to do it on your own because we don't warm up as a group.

well, i definitely want to try. and it helps that it's only two weeks.
i'm getting really excited! my dad thinks it's a great idea.

and i found out today that i didn't get into the normal french camp, and i know from talking to francois last summer that i'm not likely to get into voyageur, so that's that. it actually helps that now i won't feel bad about ditching concordia eventually for midd summer school.
and it can't take away from the good times i had there.

it's so awesome that you want me to be there! :]

That sounds a lot like my Choir here... our Tours are generally only five days, but the homestays are the same deal. And I didn't know I could survive so many hours/week in rehearsal, but I can.

Will I still see you this summer, Becky?

I won't be going down to DC this summer! Unfortunately, going back to Gallaudet didn't work out, and although I would very much enjoy it I think it would be a bit too far to travel down there just for a weekend of dancing...

Much sadness. Will you be coming up North at all this summer?

Sorry, I don't really head north much, so it's not in the plan. My girlfriend is a type that likes random road trips, though, so...

probably not.
