The Advocate is NEVER getting any $$$ from me, never ever again. It doesn't surprize me in the least that they would publish as appalling as this article, but it just confirms once and for all that affluent gays and lesbians can be privileged mutherf&*kers just as much as anyone else. DUH.

That was pretty bad, all right. Especially the way she buys into two fallacious notions: that civil rights is a zero-sum game, as the response pointed out; and the idea that some immigrants have 'broken the law' and are therefore less deserving of rights. I think the whole legal/illegal dichotomy is fallacious to begin with because it presupposes criminality, while ignoring the larger moral debate over whether - and to what extent - such actions ought to be criminal in the first place.

I guess we all ought to wait our turn until native americans, the only truly 'legal' immigrants, receive all of their rights.
