Aw, Chip Delaney! I have't read as much of his stuff as I would like, but he used to come into the store (Giovanni's Room) all the time, and he's a really good guy. Very much unabashedly queer, wicked smart, weird sense of humor. I really loved Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand, but it's a frustrating book because he's never written the promised sequel and probably never will. Dhalgren is on my list of sf novels to read this year.

Among other things, Chip Delaney wrote that "Aversion Diversion Perversion" essay that Mitchell loves so much (it's in the 137 reader).

Samuel Delany is fascinating. I read a graphic novel he co-wrote about his love affair with a homeless book-seller. Gay science-fiction / critical theory author is how he is marked in my brain.

Delaney's most famous book is Dahlgren, which is excellent. He also has a book called Hogg, which is generally regarded as either the most literate piece of violent porn out there or the most violently pornographic piece of literature around.

He teaches at Temple. Meredith has worked with him.
