Earth Hour

Mar 30, 2008 13:15

Last night we did our part to celebrate Earth Human Hour by turning on all the lights inside and outside the house, as well as burning as many candles as we could find (to make our carbon foot-print that much bigger). We also indulged in the modern luxury of delivery pizza and wings, ensuring that at least one business was doing it's part to make ( Read more... )

I don't mean to offend, but I'm not sure how waste celebrates human ingenuity. I'm with you in terms of holding great faith in human reason to circumnavigate natural obstacles. We are at once the most vulnerable animal and the most powerful animal, a walking bipedal paradox with a sense of its own history. And with that history in mind, we constantly attempt to make ourselves more efficient, to make greater use of fewer resources. Consider the telephone, and its giant and necessary machinery to make its first incarnation function. And consider the cell phone tower to replace the communications buildings and operators that used to be necessary. And think of rechargeable battery efficiency to replace the excessive wastes of power that enabled communication before. To me, wasting energy and increasing a carbon footprint to celebrate "Human Hour" makes as much sense as going out and shooting some buffalo for the hell of it or logging a forest just because one has a chainsaw.

While I was doing the dishes this morning, I thought, "Damn, I haven't heard anything from lucylovebiscuit in eons. I hope she's okay."

So I thought I'd pop in and say hello and see if you're okay. How's it going?

Hiya! Thanks for checking in on me!

I am indeed okay. Fabulous in fact! I've been trying to find time to blog, but my life has been quite full of adventures and fun stuff these past few months, and I've hardly had time to be online...In fact, this is the first time I've even logged into lj in a few months. (I miss you all, and look forward to taking some time to catch up soon.)

Hopefully I will have a post up in the next day or so...(or at least some time within the next month? Keep your fingers crossed!) It's been so darn long now that I have more material to write about than I actually know what to do with. I suppose I will have to try to process one little chunk at a time...

I sure do love having this problem, though. Life is grand!
