Lucy cracked another egg, grimacing as a bit of egg goo slopped over onto her finger. "This is disgusting," she muttered before throwing the egg into the batter, ignoring the tiny bits of shell that fell in with it.
"Less bitching, more cracking," Lois snapped as she measured out a half-cup of brown sugar. "It's an egg...wash your dainty little finger off and grab the vanilla."
Rolling her eyes, Lucy washed her hands thoroughly and moved over to the cabinet, looking for the vanilla. "I don't see it."
She heard an exasperated sigh and quickly grabbed a small brown bottle. She glanced at the label and shrugged. Almond Extract. 'Basically the same thing, right?' she thought as she dumped in half the bottle.
She dug a large wooden spoon out of a drawer and began mixing up the batter. "This looks funky," she complained.
"It's supposed to look like that," Lois said, stepping over to look into the bowl. Lucy watched as her older sister scrunched up her nose. "What's that smell?"
Lucy shrugged and continued to mix. "Like I know."
They measured out the tiny balls of dough onto a cookie sheet and shoved them into the oven.
"How long are they supposed to cook?"
Lois shrugged. "The recipe said 20 minutes. I'm betting if we up the temperature a bit, it'll take 10." Lucy nodded and watched as she cranked up the oven to 450.
Ten minutes later, the sisters pulled the cookies from the oven, smiling at each other as they looked down at the small circular cookies. "Huh."
"See," Lois said with a smirk, "this was easy enough." She picked up a spatula and started attempting to scrape the cookies off of the cookie sheet. Unfortunately, the cookies were seared to the metal, and all she managed to get up where small chunks of cooked dough. "Well, shit."
"That sounds about right," Lucy quipped, wincing as Lois shot her a look.
"This is your fault."
"What?" Lucy placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. "I did everything you told me to...basically."
"Fuck it...let's just get what we can in a bag, and I'll take them to the Planet."
Lucy smirked. "For whoooo?"
"If you value your life...and a place to live, you'll shut up, brat."
Lucy waited until Lois had showered and left, cookies in hand, until she moved over to the cookie sheet and scraped up a tiny piece of cookie to taste. Popping the cookie piece in her mouth, she chewed for perhaps 5 seconds before spitting it out and gagging slightly. "Oh, my god," she managed before bursting into laughter.
She could only hope there was a photographer on duty today.
