OOC: Following this.

Lucy stepped out of the car, her purse slung across her body, and nodded briefly at the driver. She thought he said something about taking her bags up, but honestly, she wasn't paying much attention to the man. She wasn't really paying attention to anything, which explained her being in public wearing a slightly wrinkled ( Read more... )

Oliver knew that the youngest Lane was on her way because the driver he'd sent had called him when he arrived at the airport. Sure enough, it wasn't even twenty minutes later that she'd been ringing the buzzer from downstairs.

Shortly after he'd basically moved into the Watchtower with Chloe, he'd had a security system installed. Considering how dangerous Metropolis had become since Clark had taken off, he figured they couldn't be too careful.

He glanced toward the stairs where Chloe still lay asleep and then faced forward, watching as the elevator doors slid open. He smiled faintly at the newcomer. "You must be Lucy." He moved over to her and extended his hand.

She watched him approach and nodded slightly. "I must be." Lucy attempted a smile and shook his hand. "Thanks for the flight and the ride here. I appreciate it."

Fighting back the urge to simply begin peppering the guy with a rapid-fire version of 20 questions, she glanced around. She didn't see anyone else, and she couldn't help but wonder what that meant.

"So..." Despite her confusion and anxiety, Lucy had manners. She would wait at least another minute, possibly two, before she broke down and started interrogating him.

"Chloe's upstairs asleep," he told her quietly. He motioned to the sofa. "Why don't you have a seat? You want something to drink?" He headed toward the kitchen, not quite ready to break the news about Lois, or about everything that had happened over the last few months.

"We've got coffee, tea, lemonade and water," he offered, still facing her.

Sighing, relieved, Lucy moved over to the sofa and sat down. She hadn't realized just how shaky she was until she got off of her feet.

"Water would be great, thanks. I think anything with caffeine would only make me more jittery right now."

She looked away from him and down at her hands. It wasn't nighttime and Chloe was sleeping, which was odd in itself. Her cousin never stopped going, not since they were kids. And, he hadn't mentioned where Lois was. It occurred to her, not for the first time, that she might have a clue as to what was going on if she bothered to keep in touch with her family.

Oliver drew in a breath, turning his head to look at Chloe, who hadn't let go of his hand. He squeezed her hand gently, not sure how she was going to react. He just hoped Lucy's appearance would at least lift her spirits more than he'd been able to do on his own.

Her eyes widened even more when she saw who it was, while her heart sank because Lois hadn't been found, relief washed over her as she saw her younger cousin, she had tried to contact her too, to see if she knew anything about Lois, but hadn't been able too.

Slowly Chloe let go of Oliver's hand and walked towards her cousin, eyes on her face, "Lucy?" She asked, smiling slightly, needing to make sure she was really there.

Smiling back, Lucy stepped forward and nodded. "The one and only."

She held back for approximately three more second before she was closing the distance and hugging her cousin. Unable to think of anything remotely right to say...she simply held on. 'I'm sorry I wasn't here. I'm sorry you lost your husband. I'm so, so sorry.'

Not letting go yet, but easing up enough to look at Chloe, she smiled again. "I missed you." 'I'm sorry...'

Chloe didn't hesitate before returning the hug, hugging her tighter than she normally would have closing her eyes for a second, she didn't know why Lucy was there, didn't know how she had found out about the Watchtower, but it didn't matter, she was there and she was safe. That mattered.

"I missed you too, Luce." She looked at her for a second, Lucy looked more tired than usual, not as perfectly put together and Chloe's chest tightened a little, wondering what had brought her over, but not wanting to ask just yet.

"Attack?" Lucy's eyebrows drew together as she frowned, confused. "No...I don't really keep up on the news." That was an understatement. If something didn't involve Lucy personally, she usually didn't care.

Uneasiness fell over her, and it took her a few moments to collect her thoughts. "What happened?"

This was going to be a lot harder than Chloe thought, she knew Lucy completely shut herself away, not only from them but from the news too. She took a deep breath and nodded to the small couch, waiting for Lucy to sit down too.

"About ten months ago, a creature attacked Metropolis," she couldn't go into details, so she was going to stick with what the papers said, "it... it destroyed half of the city, Luce." She paused for a long moment watching her cousin then looking down at her own lap, "Lois hasn't been seen since."

Lucy was grateful to be sitting down at that moment. She wasn't certain that she wouldn't have fallen.

"Ten months...Lois..." Lucy felt her breathing speed up and a rushing sound filled her head. For all of the arguing through the years, the resentment she'd felt as being sent off when their father kept Lois with him...Lois was the most important person in the world to her. She was more than her sister, she was the mother she had never got to know.

She'd been missing and Lucy didn't know. There was no one Lucy could blame except herself for that, and she hated it.

Chloe stayed quiet for a long moment, giving Lucy time to take in the news, she knew exactly how Lucy felt, how it felt to know that Lois wasn't there. Hadn't been for months and there was nothing they could do about it.

She moved closer to her cousin, wrapping her arm around her shoulders gently, "I looked everywhere, I think she's alive, she wasn't in any of the hospitals, she just... vanished." While she didn't want to overload Lucy with information, Chloe also didn't want her to think the worst.
