So I'm watching the Katie Couric special on NBC, The 411 on Teens and Sex, and a few things jump out at me.

One lady says that she doesn't believe oral sex is really on the rise among teens, it's just talked about more which makes some people uncomfortable which leads to the belief that it's actually increasing. I can understand that.

I couldn't watch past the first 20 minutes. It was nothing new or shocking to me since I work with youth. I am waiting to hear about this on all the right wing conservatives sites. Too bad there were no homosexual issues brought up.

Yeah, I kind figured they'd toss something in, but they didn't. Thinking about it, though, I'm glad that they didn't. It wasn't the point of their study to segment teens beyond age groups--they didn't have racial issues either, though it was pretty clear that there was a diverse racial group. If they'd gone into either of those, it would have opened the door to a lot more issues and likely would have turned into a finger-pointing matter.

I was pleased with how it turned out in the end. Whether it is on the rise or not, the show was upbeat and carried good messages with it. Teens aren't the thoughtless idiots that they've been made out to be (though believe me, I've met more than enough to counter that myself).

ok so u don't know me but I am from ft. worth and was curious of other LJers in the area. I'm female, 25 and think u r hilarious. I saw the Today show also and agree-did we look like that in junior high?? feel free to comment on my journal and never stop whining!
