Went to Mr. Z's the other day and picked up some asparagus. The thing about asparagus is that it is a very deceptive vegetable. MMMMM Asparagus. Prawns vs. Tips. In my mind prawns is more fitting, indeed they are the tips of the plant. But large edible crustaceans sounds much better to me then tips. I mean, geez, you gotta tip everybody today. It is an over exposed word. Tip a car over, feeling Tipsy, tip the waitress, stock tips, etc. Meanwhile, prawns is an underexposed word, edible crustaceans? Come on. Most edible crustaceans are already defined by a more telling word; shrimp, lobster, scallops? Calling some them prawns is not very reassuring to me. When I eat something I want to know what I'm getting. Imagine going to Lobster Hut and paying 17.99 for prawns. Nobody would do that. You would have no clue what you are getting. You may not like all forms of edible crustaceans. This is why prawn is not often utilized. I propose that the OED deal with this issue and adjust the definition to meet the needs of the consumer, i. e. me. Henceforth, the TIPS of all Asparagus shall only be referred to as prawns, citing prior evidence of the over use
