Nostalgia For Old Art

I would like to share something with you today. And that something is this image. I don't remember it from reading Naruto through the first time, but it's made me nostalgic. I really wish that Kishimoto still loved his series, because you don't see that level of... love and personality in his art nowadays. It's all clean now. The anatomy is nearly

Man, I miss Naruto. ;_; I wasn't seeing much love and personality in the story anymore either, which is why my interest waned. But it makes me sad because it was so good. I need to go back and re-read it someday. (Not like I don't have enough stuff to read. XD)

I think, for Kishimoto, Naruto ended after the battle at the Valley, when Sasuke ran away to Orochimaru. Nothing after that really managed to tug at my heart strings the same way as before. Partially I think that is because Kishimoto moved the story's focus away from characters and more towards straight-out plot. And... suddenly everybody was a cardboard cut-out of what they were before. : / I always saw the art as an embodiment and extension of what his writing was doing. And there is something painfully poetic about the fact that his current art style is as streamlined and sanitized as his writing.

I love the early arcs so damned much. Now I feel like re-reading them too. haha

That's it exactly! That's the last thing that happened in the story that I really cared about, too. And I feel like I didn't get any closure to that, though I know there was stuff that happened after that. I didn't get closure that I was satisfied with. You're right, it was just plot after that, and pretty boring plot at that. I miss the earlier stuff so much. ;_; I want to re-read it and re-watch the anime. Good Lord, I can only imagine how much time that would take. XD
