This past summer when I attended my grandma's funeral in Taiwan, I thought she was still alive until I got off the plane. I guess subconsciously I knew on the plane - I was tearing up constantly, which I put off as allergies, and my plane food was vegetarian (grandma's religiously vegetarian, and culturally, we don't eat meat for 49 days after a death of a family). But before the plane ride, I'd been constantly thinking about how great it'd be to be able to spend the last few weeks of my grandma's life by her side, and if that wasn't possible, and I had to come back to school in September, I'd at least be by her side for a good 2 months
