The Sky and The Under
Kris/Suho / PG-13 / ~1.6k words
Percy Jackson!AU. For the prompt: suho as the son of zeus and kris the son of hades
they first meet under the canopy of a closed florist just a few blocks away from joonmyun's place. he would have made it home if the rain weren’t falling so heavily. the rain looks like it's enjoying the panicked looks on people's face way too much.
in the group of people looking for shelter to keep them dry, they are standing side by side; shoulders pressing into each other from the push of people around them.
joonmyun steals a glance at the boy next to him after the first time they shoulders bump. he looks like he is around his age, but his cut is definitely more mature than him. the boy notices him staring and gives him a small smile that makes joonmyun turns his glance away, aware of the heat that is creeping up his cheeks.
if the rain is already bad enough, then the sudden addition of thunders and lightnings to the party is definitely worse. the low murmurs of complains and worrying words are spilling around him, but joonmyun stays silent. so does the boy standing next to him.
an old lady behind him suddenly pushes her way to the front, causing joonmyun to press himself further to the tall boy's body. he shots the lady an irritated look, but gains nothing in return but a silent. rolling his eyes, joonmyun adjusts his position in the small space between the tall boy and the old lady. but she really has to turn around to talk with the girl at the back, causing joonmyun to lose his balance and has his face presses flatly into the tall boy's dark grey hoodie.
"sorry." he mutters apologetically to the tall boy, hoping that he wouldn't mind all the bumps and the presses joonmyun did to him.
"it's okay." the boy smiles again. he scoots away to give joonmyun more space instead of the tiny gap. "here," he says, gesturing joonmyun to fill in the space.
so joonmyun scoots closer to the boy. but because it is too annoying to stand close to the old lady, not because of the boy's warm smile and warmer hoodie. "thank you," joonmyun says a little bit too loud, probably from nervousness. he knows the other boy wouldn't hear it, not when the thunder's loud growl suddenly sounds so close, and a lightning comes too close to his eyes. joonmyun snorts instead of winces like the other people.
so much for having a father that always watches over him.
they meet again at the camp.
(no, joonmyun didn't think of the possibility they would meet again, least at the camp)
chiron has the young demigods to pause their training to gather at the big house, circling someone whom he introduced as a new addition to the camp. joonmyun's stomach flips when he sees the figure. he is still as handsome as joonmyun first met him in the town (and it has been two--or four?--months since then.) the son of zeus has his eyes fixed on the tall boy all the time. he doesn't even listen to what the centaur is saying; not until he announces the tall boy's name, anyway.
wu yifan.
son of hades.
joonmyun feels dizzy. he tears his gaze from the tall boy as soon as he heard the name. this is a dead end, he thinks as he repeats the last bit information his brain receives. nothing would happen between two sons of the big three, nothing but chaos. (especially when the two gods are the ruler of the sky and the ruler of the underworld respectively.)
no wonder his father has been so worked up that he had to leash out a bit of his thunder when he met the boy for the first time. it was a warning.
"joonmyun." chiron calls out for him just before he steps back from the crowd. all eyes are on his pale face now. "if you could be so kind to escort your cousin to his cabin?"
cousin.
of course, yifan is his cousin. nothing more or less. right?
"sure." he says, earning an approving nod from the centaur. he can feel yifan's eyes trained on him, but he doesn't give into the temptation to stare back at him.
"okay. everyone, back to training."
with chiron's words being said, the kids scatters all around. they all are going back to whatever they were doing before the gathering. all except kim joonmyun, who is now finding himself walking towards the thirteenth cabin with the tall boy tailing behind him. no words are shared between them, it almost feels like the first time again.
"this is your cabin," joonmyun points out to the building with walls made of solid obsidian, and a skull hung just on the top of its door. "it is exclusively yours, no one is occupying this cabin currently." yifan nods, admiring the work of whoever son of hades that built the cabin. it is so hades, even a son of zeus has to agree about that. "uh, i still have training to attend, so--"
"wait. i haven't introduced myself properly." yifan stretches out his hand. "wu yifan, son of hades. nice to meet you. and thank you for the, uh, tour."
joonmyun really has no choice but to shake yifan's cold--how does it get cold in such a sunny day, anyway?--hand. "i'm kim joonmyun, son of zeus. i'll see you around." he cuts it smoothly before he takes his leave.
he definitely doesn't miss the way yifan's smile falters at the mention of the name of his father.
it is fifteen minutes after dinner when joonmyun finds himself walking close to the forest. the campers are back at their cabins, the nymphs and satyrs are nowhere to be found. joonmyun walks over to a familiar tree and decides to sit down in front of it. he looks up to the sky, where a full moon greets him. it doesn’t look as beautiful as those times when he hasn’t found out that he is a son of an olympian god.
what would he do if he isn’t actually a demigod?
maybe he would still live with his mother, back in their house in gangnam. maybe he would be the class president for achieving the first rank in class. maybe he would even be in the student council.
maybe everything just would be more peaceful.
"i thought you said that we should stop doing this." a familiar voice snaps him out of his spacing out. joonmyun turns around to see yifan coming from behind a tree. he can't help but to smile at the tired look on yifan's face. the boy has spent more time training than the rest of the campers for this week.
"i did, didn't i?" joonmyun says sadly. "then this has to be really the last time."
yifan raises his eyebrows before plopping down to sit next to the son of zeus. he leans forward to press a kiss on joonmyun's temple, causing him to close his eyes and sigh contently. joonmyun scoots closer to the taller boy, seeking for warmth that never really radiates from a son of hades' body. "do you want to go on a date?" yifan asks as he circles an arm around joonmyun's small frame.
"if you describe date as shadow traveling with your hellhound pet and have a walk along the fields of asphodel, then no." joonmyun snorts, remembering the last time so many dying souls trying to reach out for him.
“hey, it was fun!” yifan makes protesting noises. he leans away from joonmyun to give him a disbelieving look. joonmyun leans closer instead.
“of course it was fun to you. you get to look at my miserable times being in the same room with your father and his wife, surrounded by hellhounds hungry for my meat.” he shudders at the memories of the ‘family dinner’ yifan once invited him to. yifan chuckles, the sound of it brings so much warmth in his chest. it is starting to suffocate him.
“i have had enough of the underworld,” joonmyun decides, “i probably smell of death right now.”
yifan frowns, “hey, if anyone would know if you smell of death or not, it would be me.” joonmyun rolls his eyes, but he leans up to kiss the corner of yifan’s lips anyway. the taller boy smiles, “and you don’t smell like one, okay?”
“if i smell of death, you would be the first person to feel my father’s thunderbolt.” and i don’t want that to happen, joonmyun secures the words on the tip of his tongue instead.
a loud rang of laugh escapes yifan’s lips and that makes joonmyun’s face flushed red. it is not everyday you could see a son of hades laughing, and to be the cause of it makes joonmyun somehow feels happy.
“i won’t let us fall.” yifan whispers.
joonmyun shifts in his place, the words sound so heavy in his ears. he likes how the words sound at the same time he hates them.
but this time, the son of zeus lets himself clutching on to the words like his life depends on it.
“okay.” he says before he closes the gap between him and the son of hades, letting his lips gliding over yifan’s dry ones. the taller boy’s big hand is suddenly behind joonmyun’s head, holding him close. joonmyun opens his lips and allows yifan to deepen their kiss as he closes his eyes in pleasure.
suddenly it’s just him and yifan, and the rest of the world.
and he lets himself believe that maybe this once, maybe yifan is really there to prevent them from falling.
