The Sun Comes Down To Your Face
Luhan/D.O / PG-13 / ~1.2k words
For Dessy, and her prompt: Kyungsoo is a cooking club member while Luhan is in soccer club. They both get home late once, romance ensues.
Kyungsoo hurriedly stuffs the food container he has just filled with the new grilled salmon pasta recipe he just tried in the culinary club into his backpack. It is his first time cooking that menu that he took longer than usual. He doesn’t even realize that the sky is no longer painted blue, but a pretty array of pink, yellow, and orange. His train is leaving soon, and he has to rush to the bus stop if he wants to make it on time.
His steps are rushed; any teacher would scold him for the noises his shoes make against the hallway’s floor, but all of went home already. He runs-no, sprints-when he’s outside. Two more minutes before the next bus, his watch says. Kyungsoo will be devastated if he doesn’t make it, he really wants to be at home for dinner.
"Kyungsoo!"
Kyungsoo halts at the call. He turns around to find his friend running towards him with an excited face. Kyungsoo adjusts the position of his backpack even if there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just that he suddenly feels nervous and he doesn’t know what to do about it.
Luhan smells of fresh soap when he stops in front of Kyungsoo, his hair are messy from the wind. His grin is too bright it’s almost blinding. On his right shoulder is his shoe bag. He must have finished with his soccer club activities a while ago.
"Hey," Luhan says, “Going home?" Kyungsoo nods at this, finding his tongue tied due to the mind distraction that is the way Luhan’s eyes glinting. “Do you want a ride?"
By a ride, Luhan means his red bicycle. Kyungsoo looks at his watch to consider the offer. He has missed the bus for sure, if Luhan can help him go to the station before it’s too late…
"Can you, uh, drop me at the station?" He mentally cringes away at how unsure his tone were.
"Sure!" Luhan’s face brightens up, and before Kyungsoo knows it, he is being pulled into the direction of the bicycle racks.

Bicycle riding with Luhan is never a new thing for Kyungsoo. They have been doing it since middle school. It was only because they attended different clubs with different schedule that they started to drift apart. When Kyungsoo is honest to himself, he allows himself to admit how much he misses Luhan’s bicycle-and its owner, of course.
Luhan is pedaling through the familiar street next to the river, his mouth won’t stop talking and Kyungsoo allows himself to be sucked in even deeper when Luhan laughs at his remark.
Kyungsoo thinks he couldn’t get more embarrassed when he confesses how he misses riding with Luhan and times he would get lost in the station because, damn, without the blonde everything just seems difficult. He is saved, however, when suddenly a sound of stomach rumbling breaks into them. And that is certainly not Kyungsoo.
"Sorry about that," Luhan says. Even without seeing his face, Kyungsoo knows that his friend is smiling sheepishly with a hint of blush covering his cheekbones right now.
"Stop." Kyungsoo taps on Luhan’s shoulder repeatedly. “Stop the bicycle, Luhan."
"Wha-?"
But Luhan stops his bicycle anyway. Kyungsoo gets off smoothly. He grips Luhan’s arm and pulls him to the grass field next to the river. It is a bold move, Kyungsoo knows, Luhan is probably wondering his ass out right now. He doesn’t even want to meet his friend’s eyes.
He sits down at a spot that he thinks clean enough. Patting the space next to him, Kyungsoo bravely looks up to see Luhan’s face. He is not surprised that his friend is smiling. “Come here."
As Luhan is settling down comfortably next to him, staring out to the sun setting just at the horizon in front of their eyes, Kyungsoo opens his backpack and pulls out the food container he stuffed in earlier. He rummages some more, and pulls out a plastic fork.
"It’s a new recipe I’ve just tried, I don’t know if it will taste good or not." He says as he hands them to Luhan, who has his eyebrows risen.
Luhan’s mouth is certainly watering when he opens the container, letting the delicious smell coming out freely. His stomach grumbles again. Gulping, he turns to look at Kyungsoo with a questioning look, “I-I’m not sure I could eat this?"
"Eat," says Kyungsoo. “I’m not allowing myself to be riding with someone hungry, and certainly not when that person is the one in control for the vehicle."
Luhan grins for a split second before he digs the fork in.
Kyungsoo eyes the bits of pasta that starts to disappear in Luhan’s mouth, he feels nervous again. As if he could sense it, Luhan brings him a thumb up to show how he approves of the taste.
Kyungsoo laughs, feeling genuinely happy and warm. They chat more between Luhan’s bites and chews, and Kyungsoo would use his handkerchief to wipe away the mess Luhan makes around his mouth. They are so at ease that Kyungsoo finally realizes how much he misses the other’s presence in his life.
He really needs this once in a while.
"You probably missed your train by now." Luhan says guiltily as Kyungsoo neatly packs the now empty container into his backpack.
Kyungsoo shrugs his shoulders. “I don’t really have to rush at this point. The food I want to bring for dinner is already in your stomach." He says, turning Luhan into more guilt. “It doesn’t matter, Luhan. I-To be able to spend time with you like this, those pasta are worth it to me."
"I missed you." Luhan blurts out suddenly. His eyes are drawn out to the sky, unwilling to meet Kyungsoo’s stare. He looks startled at his own confession, the tips of his ears are starting to redden from embarrassment. “Would it be stupid to tell you how much I was feeling so happy when I saw you today?"
Kyungsoo shakes his head. He can feel his own cheeks starting to heat. “I’m happy you called out for me." He says earnestly.
Luhan hums his approval, turning to face a blushing Kyungsoo. He leans his head onto the other’s shoulder. “I’ll give you a ride to your home, then."
"But it’s almost dark," Kyungsoo protests.
"Mm, never too dark for me when I’m with you."
Kyungsoo playfully shoves Luhan’s shoulder away. “Gross!" He laughs.
Luhan fakes a hurtful look, a hand clutching onto his shirt to make a more dramatic effect. Kyungsoo laughs louder. He slaps Luhan’s thigh lightly and receives a big grin from him.
They finally get up and walk back towards where Luhan put down his bicycle. The atmosphere between them is even lighter than before.
"Wait." Luhan grips on Kyungsoo’s wrist before he gets onto the bicycle. The other gives him a questioning look, but it quickly disappeared into almost shock when Luhan leans in to kiss him. He is only glad when Kyungsoo finally calms down and starts to respond to the kiss.
(Luhan laughs when they pull apart. Kyungsoo raises his eyebrows in question.
"The sun," Luhan says. “Your face is as red as the sun.")
