I didn't learn to ride a bicycle until i was nine. My brother tried to teach me when I was 7 or 8, but I wouldn't listen to him and I was afraid of getting yelled at for failing.

When we moved to Colorado Springs, I fell in with a group of kids who all had dirt bikes. When I said I couldn't ride a bike, one of my new friends just said, "sure you can," and gave me his old bike before everyone sped off to whatever the entertainment of the day was. Determined to be able to keep up with the social group, I fumbled my way after them and by the end of the day, I told my family I could now ride a bike (and needed my own!).

Two years later, I moved to California and everyone had skateboards. But I did not repeat my feat; I was already set in my ways and became the weird kid on a bike when everyone else was on their boards.
