This is why my post-apocalyptic zombie-ish novel skips the romantic relationship bullshit almost entirely. I was so fucking tired of female protagonists "needing" romance angst that I had start my own book to prove that crap wrong. A dash is fine, but don't beat the reader over the head with it while claiming the book is about something else entirely.
