That sounds like the pony cartoon I always wanted but never got. I'm thrilled it finally happened.
I'm also not surprised that the Kathleen Richter blog post about it was full of shit after all. When the blogger starting harping on the rainbow-maned one for being a caricature (rainbow + sports = TOTAL LESBIAN amirite?!) I knew she was reaching.
Haha, yeah. And Faust's response was particularly awesome when she pointed out that assuming tomboy=lesbian is insulting to tomboy lesbians as well as straight ones. She left the gay option wide open because lesbian tomboy is another way to be a girl, and that's awesome.
They DO lose some points for having a token African character who hasn't shown up except to be a catalyst for a racism lesson in one episode, but it's only the first half of the first season so I am hoping Zecora shows up more. She's awesome.
Agh, I don't even LIKE horses and I think this is adorable. I mean, everyone's nostalgic about all the old shit they watched as a kid, but sometimes new things come along that need to be in the 'childish but respected' category. MLP is one of those things. Is it weird that this post and the creator's review are part of what makes it so enjoyable? I mean, knowing there are people out there who appreciate good cartoons, and people working hard to create them. Folks may not want to watch it because it's ~girly~, but if being girly makes things automatically bad, then I guess all those hot femmes out there have been doing it wrong. /shrug
oh man.... I... so I watched it. and enjoyed it... and then I watched the first episode (both part 1 and 2) and uhm. wow. I cried at all the little sappy moments. and I swooned over the song in the creepy forest...
and all I can say is that I'veNeverBeenSoExcitedWellExceptForThatTimeIWent*GASP!*
