Wow, Elmo has a gawdawfully annoying original voice. Luckily, he hasn't taken over German Sesame Street as completely yet. I also think his German voice is slightly less grating.

I don't prefer Elmo to the other characters, but I do like him. You're right that the German voice is less annoying - I think he also sounds kind of like a girl with the german voice. :P

I'm pretty sure he's voiced by a woman.

Here's Elmo with Natalie Portman. Man, she radiates enthusiasm. (No sarcasm.)

Yes, I watched that natalie portman thing earlier when I was on youtube. :) I found her enthusiasm rather... uninfectious. But then again, I'm not five years old anymore.
