So apparantly my mother tells me that I'm going to recieve a laptop for my birthday next April, and I am pleased. I'm mildly worried that they'll end up spending £500 on a machine that is rubbish, though, which is why I want to put £200 of my own towards it to ensure I get a good one. And I want to pick it. And I want it now

Well, try Alienware. I think they have machines starting at £750 on their website. Worth the extra moolah. Yes indeed.
