[Video] Backdate to 1/22 in the middle of the night

[The communicator turns on with a zap, and as the video feed goes live there is a brief look of Luke's face and then the communicator gets dropped on the floor. Following this there is a string of grumbles to himself as Luke hesitantly crouches down to pick up the device. His fingers are visible as he pokes it once, just to make sure it's not going ( Read more... )

I'm all right...this thing just shocked me. It's just never done that before, so I was surprised.

Can you not sleep either..?

I see. If it shocked you, it might be broken...be careful with it.

No...I've been having trouble resting as well. What did you mean, "the last time?"

Somebody told me that these things will shock you if you don't use it enough. I don't quite understand why that would happen...but I suppose they know better than I would.

[He pauses, thinking.] Ah--oh yes. This happened a few weeks ago. Just about everyone couldn't sleep, and was having bad dreams and felt rather on edge. This feels the same.

I think most people are awake. This is pretty frustrating, huh?

[Hi, Luke! Sam knows of you, even if you don't know of her.]

It is. It wasn't pleasant the first time it happened, either... Though it is nice to know I'm not the only person up all night. Being up all night is bad enough on it's own, but being up all night alone is worse.

[He smiles slightly, tilting his head.] Um..I'm Luke. I don't think we've met.

[She offers him a slightly strained smile.] I hear you. Luckily - or unluckily, I guess - it seems like most of Discedo is up, too.

I'm Sam. Have you been here long? [She'll refrain from asking him about the hospital. Maybe not the best foot to start out on.]

I suppose it goes a bit of both ways, everyone being awake. It'd be much nicer if everyone was asleep.

It's nice to meet you, Sam. [First he tries to sound cheerful: it was an unsuccessful venture, but he tried. He was tired, and still on edge from what had happened after Christmas. The fact that all of Discedo was on edge as much as he was at the time wasn't helping matters. After a moment, he looks up, counting the weeks in his head.] I've only been here for about three months. The Professor says I've been here two other times before then, but I don't remember that.

You can't sleep, either?

[...] What question were you going to ask?

Reply

luke_triton January 23 2011, 05:58:55 UTC
Nope. I'm up too.

[There is a pause, he is thinking.] Oh--I wanted to ask if anyone else was up and couldn't sleep. The last time this happened, everyone was all jittery and agitated and having bad dreams and then not sleeping all at the same time. And..well, this feels just like that. Not the sort of bad dream or restless sleep you get after something that's scary happens--it feels different than that.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't only me, I suppose.

I think I remember that. Didn't I meet you before, when it happened? I talked to you when you couldn't sleep.

I can't either. If I try, it's just bad dreams.

That's right! That is when we first started talking. I forgot. Not that we had started talking--just when it happened.

It's awful. Lots of bad dreams--not the ones I've been having but different things. The city, or people getting hurt, or just dreams I can't remember but wake up feeling---knowing--that they were bad.

[SORRY for the late tag ;_; ]

At least this thing isn't shocking everyone, I suppose that's good.

Doesn't this feel an awful lot like the last time everyone couldn't sleep..? It's strange..

Yeah, I'll definitely pass on that.

It does. Almost identical. And I don't get that many nightmares back home usually.

I don't really, either. I've..well, I got sick after Christmas and for a while I was having bad dreams then...

..but other than that, I don't usually have bad dreams, and even if I do not so many in a row. And certainly not when everyone around me was having bad dreams, too.

I know. This happened a few weeks ago--everyone was awake, and felt jittery and like they couldn't sleep, had bad dreams when they did sleep... It went away, though. I don't really understand what happened, but at least we know it goes away after a few days--right, Miss Vera?

[His comment about knowing this "goes away in a few days, right?" is almost as much to placate himself as it is to help her.]

It happens a lot here... ...I don't like it. I hope it goes away soon.

It makes me nervous [Well...more nervous than usual.]

[He frowns.]

Don't be nervous. I..I mean...this is odd. And it did just happen--but we all got better. And nobody got hurt. So even if it's unpleasant...it's all right.

Though I hope it goes away very soon too.
