There are things to be claimed... [Video]

[The communicator flickers on, sitting on a table. Luke is in the far corner of the room, at the doorway, dragging something very large and very wooden into the room. It appears to be a large wooden box. As he walks further into the frame, he turns to the communicator and smiles.]

Look what I found! It looks like it was buried next to the house ( Read more... )

Mmhm!

There's a letter in here that is addressed to whoever finds the box, saying we made it for safekeeping of things that were important to us at the time...but it's signed by me. I don't remember writing it.

There's a book in here that looks like it might be written in Japanese! Not that I could be sure..but..that's sort of what it looks like.

Uwah, truly? Ah... if it is not too much, could I see it?

Ah, but as for the letter... It is possible that you were here previously and lost your memory of it upon arrival this time.

[Luke holds the book up to the communicator, as close as he can get it without making it look blurry. He hoped.]

This is the book. I..well I know it's not English anyway..

[He looks down at the floor after putting the book away in the box.] I have been here before, and I don't remember it, so that must be it. It's still quite odd..

A time capsule!

It was buried just by the house. [He tilts his head, waving his hand to urge her over.] Look at all the stuff in here! Marbles, and books, and a wallet and some bedsheets and some drawings....[He peers into the box, pulling out a small book.]

H-hey...this is my puzzle book from home! It has my handwriting in it, and I know the pages that are missing and everything. I thought I'd lost it...but I suppose it's been here the whole time. I don't remember having it here..but I've been here before in the past, so I must have left it here for later?

Oh my! [She trotted over and watched curiously over his shoulder as he sifted through the box's contents. When he reached the puzzle book, her eyes widened in surprise.]

Wow! Are you sure it's really the same one? [Wait a minute...] What do you mean, you've been here before?

I'm certain it's the same one... [As proof, he opens the book to the back cover, where even she'd be able to recognize his handwriting. He'd written his name.]

[Insert shoes scuffing on the floor here. The question brought up the memory of him confronting Layton when he'd found out he'd not only been here before but had also died here before.] Erm...yes. I've been here twice before, but I don't remember either time.

Huh? What's a time capsule, Luke?

It's a box or a container, where you put some special things in--like keepsakes, or letters, or little toys or books--to bury. Then, some time later you can open the box up and see the things you put away to keep safe.

I think the whole idea is so that you don't quite remember what the letters said, or what exactly you buried. So it's a surprise when you open it.

Can you see everything that's inside? Hold on, I'll move the communicator so you can. [The angle of the video camera shifts, showing feet walking and then finally focuses on the content of the box. Luke leaves the camera pointing here while he keeps rambling.]

Are any of these things yours, Pearl? I can bring it to you.

I don't think I've ever put anything in that... Or if I did, I don't remember. [She tilts her head to get a better look at the things inside the box, and shakes her head.] There's nothi- Huh?

[She points at the shiny "barely read" law book in the corner of the box.] Um, that looks like it could be Mr. Nick's... He's a lawyer, after all! I'm not sure though...

[He looks at what she's pointing at, trying to draw an invisible line to what she means. Finally, he grabs the book.]

Oh! This book? [He opens the cover carefully, looking around for a name.]

It's has 'P.W.' written in the corner--those are his initials, so I think you are right! I can bring it over, if you'd like!

You... wrote a letter to yourself? [Trying to make sense of his reaction.]

Mmhm.

I was here before, and I don't remember. So I must have written the letter then..

I see. That's... well, that's certainly curious. What does the letter say?

It's mostly about the time capsule and about Discedo at the time it was written...it doesn't say much else.

[And he's quite glad it doesn't say much else.]
