Excited about the new Futurama episodes? I was, until I read that the entire voice cast is being replaced because 20th Century Fox "can't afford their salary demands".

$75000 per episode?!
Wow

Don't worry, they'll lower the demand and show will go on :)

$75000 sounds like a lot until you hear the Simpson's cast makes $400,000 each an episode.

The studio can afford it, they're just being dicks.

Well yeah, number of people watching is important :D
Also I think that Simpsons were "recast" also, when they didn't want to lower their fees.

What I wonder is why Matt Groening wouldn't just make the episodes himself, and then sell them to tv channels or something

Yikes! Can "bite my shiny metal ass" really sound the same without DiMaggio? I don't think so.

If they are changing casts I don't want to consider what they might be doing to the writing staff. Is Zap Brannigan working for Fox now?

That is seriously messed up. If they don't have the budget to pay their talent, then they have no business pretending they have the budget to make the show. That's like showing up to the Indy 500 qualifiers with a soapbox racer because a real car with an engine and stuff would be too expensive.

And ditto to the concerns about the writing staff. If they're going to try to dump the voice actors, something that is sure to cause a fan uproar, how much more cavalier are they going to be in attitude toward the writers, whom most fans of the show cannot readily name? Yet the writing is crucial - it wouldn't be the same show without that distinctive voice and style of wit.

What in the world convinced Comedy Central to try to do this on the cheap, anyway?
