i know what you mean. what have you been using to bind? i had the same rib cage type problem with almost everything i used. the one thing that allowed me to breathe was the double panel compression shirts from underworks...i know some guys roll it up so it makes the compression 2x as much, but i wore it full down as a shirt and felt as though i could breathe and move much easier. i didn't worry about it falling down either.
i was a large C/small D before surgery and it worked well for me. most people couldn't even tell i was binding.
I actually use the double front compression shirt, but I use it folded up with shoulder straps. I think you may have nailed an obvious solution which is to not double it up. I'm not really sure how to keep it from rolling up like so many people complain about. I also think I'm scared it won't work as well, even though I am pretty small. I bet it will work good enough, and sometimes you just have to sacrifice flatness for comfort, you know? Thanks for the tip!
problem with the triple (half shirt) one is the belly sticks out and that is not cool with me. lol. i guess it's fine if you have no belly, though.
to keep the double front from rolling up, i wore a pair of boxer briefs (boxer briefs work so much better than boxers for this) and tucked the shirt into the underwear. the elastic strap and tight fabric kept the shirt from rolling up and i never had a problem.
push your breasts DOWN into the shirt, and then "wipe" them to the sides, if you will. make sure to push 'em down first, though, otherwise you'll end up with a very weird side boob issue.
this worked for me and i was BIG (transster ID #253--and that photo is already post a reduction!)
i wore a size medium. "mausbot" can also attest that this works well. he goes to smith. sorry if i've let out your secret, 5L, but mine is out now too. ;p
yeah, it's for sure been the best binding method for me, and I know I'd be in a hell of a lot more pain by now using one of the other methods!
A friend here at school actually worked with the guys at Underworks developing the tri-top binder, so I am waiting to see if he can score me a xsmall one, I bet that one is mad more comfortable.
