Carl von Clausewitz and context/combat

I've been reading Carl von Clausewitz's On War, a treatise on strategy and warfare, for the past few days. It's short, dense, and oftentimes a little confusing-maybe it's the translation, but he starts sounding a little like Aristotle at times. Have you ever read the book FILIPINO MARTIAL CULTURE by Mark Wiley? I'd also recommend you check out the book WARRIOR ARTS OF THE PHILIPPINES by Reynaldo Galang (who is one of my most important martial teachers). Every art has a deep connection to a people's history and socio-political context, this is absolutely true--after all, war itself is an instrument of policy. I think you'd find out some interesting stuff about your Filipino heritage by exploring this, either through books--or ever better, by experiencing this for yourself directly ( ... )
