Facebook is a creeper

It's started advertising Lesbian Valentines to me. And LGBT Pride t-shirts. And whatever else. I haven't told it whether I'm interested in men or women. And I think it wouldn't assume I need a bunch of LGBT tchotchkes unless it figured it had somehow figured out my orientation without my ever telling it. Or joining any LGBT groups other than ones ( Read more... )

Facebook creeps everything one does on the internet. I remember reading this in their privacy agreement somewhere, but it follows what else you do on the internet, and creates ads suited to what it thinks you'll want to see. I.E. I bitched about my Sony laptop on lj, and when I went to facebook it advertised Sony computers.

Also, just out of random curiosity, what language are you programming in?

Oh, no. Facebook is so scary... good thing they really do only seem to use it to give me boring advertisements.

I'm programming in Action Script, which... I don't know, I think it's for use in Flash, or maybe we're just using it in Flash. So we're making animations, because I think the teacher believes we'd rather have the computer do something pretty with five lines of code than type in fifteen lines of code to make it give us the option of seeing two slightly different chunks of text. NOT SO. It feels a little like going to cooking school and defrosting frozen meals, but it'll probably get more interesting later in the semester.

I think all basic computing classes, unless you specifically take one for a certain language, are sort of faily. I started taking one this semester and the entire focus was on moving a little robot around a grid. ...so I dropped it. At least what you're learning might have some use, though apparently Flash is being phased out by HTML5.
