The Star Thrower Story by Joel BarkerThere's a story I would like to share with you. It was inspired by the writing of Loren Eiseley. Eiseley was a very special person because he combined the best of two cultures. He was a scientist and a poet. And from those two perspectives he wrote insightfully and beautifully about the world and our role in it ( Read more... )

Sometimes I wish everyone realized this. That those people out there, who do so much, who try so hard, but aren't able to help everyone, or aren't perfect, are doing what they can to make a difference for as many people as possible.

exactly. imagine if everyone thought that way? if everyone was to say, "what's the point? it's not like i'm going to make a difference anyway..." it would be a very sad world. i thought that way when i first started volunteering at the nursing home. and then one day one of the old ladies pulled me aside and told me how i make her feel young again. that comment made a difference in my life. it kinda works both ways...it changes your life, as well as the life of the person you're helping...

Exactly, but so many more people need to realize it.

It really bothers me when someone who is obviously trying to do good and is succeeding, but for some reason or the other isn't 100% perfect, gets cut up for not helping everyone out there.

We all (myself included sometimes) need to realize that little bit of help does make a difference to a few and can change the world.

I used to think this way until I started sponsoring a child and seeing the progress made to just one child, changed the course of things around her, for she was able to go to school, help feed her family, etc.

It's amazing that one little good deed resonates like ocean ripples, affecting so many.

yeah, i know. with "operation smile," about $200 pays for surgery for one child. i hate that i can only afford to donate that amount every 6 months. i know when i graduate and make real money, i can give so much more, but it still breaks my heart that i can't do more right now.

Yes but doing something is better than doing nothing at all and just sitting back and letting it all happen.
